Jill Wood, planning and zoning consultant, who has been working with the Planning & Zoning Board for several months now, presented several items to the Board of Commissioners at the February meeting held last Monday night.
Among the items Ms. Wood presented were a proposal to update the definition of a “junked vehicle” in our zoning ordinances, a request from the Planning & Zoning Board to the Commissioners for permission to submit a proposal relating to off-street parking and commercial vehicle storage in residential areas, drafts of new code enforcement guidelines, and a proposed citation form. Also presented were several proposed amendments to Ramseur’s zoning ordinances.
Ms. Wood also presented several requests for clarification or additional time to comply from several local business owners. A review of all active code violation cases was then presented to the Board and business owner Tim Matthews also addressed the Board and requested that the paintings on the side of his building at the corner of Main and Carter Streets be declared artwork, which would end the code violation case against him.
This section of our Board of Commissioners meetings has over the past several months begun to take up 40% to 50% of each meeting. Several citizens have suggested that perhaps the Planning & Zoning report be done in a separate meeting in order to keep the meetings from running so late into the evening. Such concerns should properly be addressed to Mayor Shaw and the Commissioners by calling or writing to them at the municipal building.
